Spirits were high as the jubilation from graduates permeated through out the San José State Event Center at the College of Business’ Spring 2010 convocation ceremony. Graduates tossed around beach balls and participated in the wave during the event to demonstrate their excitement and enthusiasm.

Donning traditional regalia, the College Deans and faculty members participated in the ceremony to honor over 600 graduating students. The event, held on May 28th, was full to near capacity with family and friends gathering to celebrate. The ceremony included both undergraduate and graduate students graduating in the Spring ‘10 and Summer ’10 terms.

During the ceremony, each graduate was individually recognized as they crossed the stage. After hearing their name read, graduates had the opportunity to be photographed with the deans of the College.

For this year’s convocation, Alumna Annette Finsterbusch served as the Alumni Guest Speaker. Annette earned her MBA from San Jose State in 2001 after completing the Charter MBA-One program. She currently works as the Senior Director for Applied Ventures, which is a portion of the venture capital arm of Applied Materials, Inc. Annette also serves on the College of Business’ Global Leadership Council.

In her speech, Annette offered three main points of wisdom for business students. First she encouraged students to “operate with integrity,” as well as “develop leadership.” Lastly, Annette stressed the importance of “achieving personal mastery.” Continuing with the concept of personal mastery, the alumnus advised students that “the key is self-awareness.” Annette stated that success comes from, knowing your weaknesses and strengths.

The College of Business would like to extend well wishes and congratulations to its graduating class of 2010.

To promote the theme of student success, the College of Business brought its’ 52nd Distinguished Alumni Dinner Event back to the San José State University campus. The event was held to honor two of its’ prominent alumni, Connie Moore and Ronald VandenBerghe.

As part of the student success motif, the SJSU ballroom was lined with posters exhibiting the many student opportunities provided by the College of Business. The posters showed student education in action, featuring students working in the Gary J. Sbona Honor’s Program as well as student travels in the Thompson Global Internship Program.

Ronald also called former Business Dean Jack Holland a “tremendous inspiration” to his business career. Ronald spoke of the quality education he received in his business courses and called his return to campus “nostalgic.”
